The weather

bed count: 60

Now in Nelson, having cycled part of the Queen Charlotte Track in the Malborough Sounds (very pretty) and got a bit wet on the way...

The weather here isn't that great. We have had some scorching half hours, but it inevitably rains at some point in the day at the moment. Still, the Kiwis keep telling us that the best weather comes in February but, since they told us a similar thing about January when it was still December, we think they're just exhibiting their natural optimistic tendancies...

The weather doesn't bother me here as much as it did at home though. I think it's partly because when the weather is nice - be it for an hour or a week - we can decide to go and make the most of it. It's not like it's sunny at 11am on a Friday and we have to be at work, or that it's been sunny all week when I'm at work and then pees it down at the weekend.

Plus, we just get out and do things anyway. Sure - if it's really peeing it down we might go and look at some galleries rather than go for a walk, but we've got the luxury of time now. I love being in another country and a whole heap of other things that travelling involves, but the luxury of time is possibly one of the greatest perks.

Having said that the weather has been bad, it was nice in Picton this morning and again in Nelson, though we drove up into some very low and forboding cloud on the way here. We're keeping our fingers crossed that the weather gets a bit nicer though, not least of all as we're due to start a wwoof with a willow grower tomorrow and it would be a shame for him not to be able to get the work he wants done if the weather is too bad.

Not long til Larry and Lesley come out to visit us now. Plus, it looks like we're going to get to hook up with our friends Matt and Trace again next week when they head to the S Island, so there are lots of familiar faces headed our way. Yey!

Finally - Happy Birthday Granny for yesterday and Happy Birthday Larry for tomorrow. I hope you had / have a good time. And I hope that all of you with rotten colds back home get well soon.

Kxx
