Anniversary
bed count: 12

Okay - so we're now in Langakwi. Not only a beautiful, tropical island (and our bungalow is right on the beach), but also a duty-free zone where beer is 30p per can...
But instead of going on and on about how beautiful the beach is, how warm the sea is and how good the food is I will tell you a little story about what happened to us last night.
(But you can see more photos of Langkawi if you would prefer)
Yesterday was our anniversay - 3 years since our first date and 2 since Alec asked me to marry him. (We have actually celebrated this twice now as we celebrated it by mistake in Singapore, but hey, who's counting).
So after catching the ferry up here from Penang and lazing about on the beach all afternoon we went to the Chinese seafod place a few doors away for an anniversay dinner (you should see the size of the tiger prawns here - that's not a prawn it's a lobster!).
Traditionally we would have gone to Jinty McGinty's in Ashton Lane where 'With or without you' by U2 (which we had our first kiss to and which accompanied Alec's proposal) would play as they only seem to have one CD, and then on for a curry. However, Jintys was just a tad too far this time.
So anyway - we're sitting in the middle of the open air restaurant enjoying the ambience and after a while a Malay guy with a guitar enters and takes up pitch a few meters away and begins to sing.
He sings a couple of songs, including a not bad version of 'Imagine' and Alec and I pause our conversation clap politely at the end of each as we're the closest table to him and would feel a bit rude otherwise.
Then, just as Alec is in the middle of telling me a story involving Jason Donovan and Henry from Neighbours and a programme called 'Heros' (romantic evening and all that) I freeze. It takes Alec a second (I think he thought the tears welling up in my eyes were to do with a secret yearning for Craig McLaughlin) but eventually he twigs...
The guy is playing 'With or with out you' by U2.
And so, we sit in the middle of a Chinese restaurant in a small village on a little island off the North of Malaysia, me with tears streaming down my face, listening to the guy play the same song we listened to three years ago.
Who would have thought, 3 years ago, that we would be married and on our travels. Well - some of you might have thought it was just a romantic dream, but I know that a small part of me would have believed it :)
