Alec's beach - Langkawi
Ahh - Langkawi. Land of the 30p beer. Well we stayed on for a few extra days here as we really liked the place. Also - we are already a bit sick of moving around. We're a bit crap at the 'travelling' part of 'travelling'.
We did hire a car for the day though (for about a tenner) and took in some of the wider island, which was lovely. Went up in the cable cars and got some lovely views of the island until the cloud rolled in. Spooky!
There was also a beach on the north coast which Alec wanted to see so we headed up there. However, we couldn't seem to get close to the beach from the road as the extensive gardens of very posh hotels were in the way. After driving to the road end we decided to head back down and go to one of the hotels along the strecth of coast for a drink.
So we drove up to a really posh hotel ('platinum' grade I read somewhere) and drove passed the guard on the driveway thinking 'we're going to get rumbled - they're going to shout 'oi, backpacker, stop lowering the tone of our posh hotel''.
Still, we pulled up and strolled in and no-one batted an eyelid. So we had a stroll round and took in the beautiful surroundings, including garden and swimming pool (why didn't I bring my damned costume!) and (out past the complimentary parasols) eventually found Alec's beach. Very, very lovely indeed.
