Fishing from kayaks

bed count: 85

We were up early this morning as we couldn't pass up the opportunity of a kayak fishing trip for just $25 (about 8 quid). We set off to another beautiful NZ bay before the wind could get too strong and suited up.

I, of course, managed to come off the sit-on kayak in 2 foot of water (or rather I didn't actually manage to get on the kayak at the first attempt) and lose my bottle of drinking water within 30 seconds. This was probably down to slight panic on my part as I saw the size of the surf we had to head out through - not massive but big enough.

But once we got beyond the surf it was a beautiful morning and we tied our kayaks to some seaweed and fished for a couple of hours. It was a pretty productive couple of hours too. I caught about 6 blue cod in all, but only 2 were big enough to keep. Alec caught a similar number, with 1 big enough to keep, so we had enough for tea tonight with some left over for breakfast tomorrow.

Plus, one of the other guys with us capsized in the surf on the way back in, so I didn't feel so bad. Plus, my bottle of water was waiting on the beach.

The rest of today we have just spent chilling out really. Exploring the 50 classic cars in the shed, all in various states of disrepair. Watching the horses walk past the window. Relaxing in the lounge with its huge plants and art-deco shop doors. It's a pretty cool, eclectic place really. Not bad for a Tuesday really...
