The more sedate side of my birthday

So, what better to do after bungy jumping than head up to a little cinema in Wanaka and watch 'Miss Potter'. You probably don't think the two naturally go together, but it was the only film on that day and it's a really cool cinema.

In NZ there are still quite a few small independent cinemas where you can have your meal and a beer or wine whilst watching the film. As well as having loads of comfy old sofas and armchairs, the one is Wanaka has a car at the side so you can watch the movie 'drive-in' style if you like.

Then, in the evening, Alec took me out to dinner at the Skyline restaurant, way above Queenstown. All the way up in the goldala he was joking that we were actually off to do a night-time bungee. I wouldn't have out it past him.

Oh yes - on a slightly less sedate note, the crater lake on Mount Ruapehu in the North Island finally burst through the rim yesterday after months of speculation. The huge lahar gushed down the hillside rather spectacularly apparently. Luckily no one was hurt as there have been proceedures in place more or less since the last lahar in the 50s when lots of people died after it swept away a railway bridge. Looks like mother nature felt like my 30th was a good day for a show though!
